up time and also inform the school office.) If you know your child will be absent
on any future day please give a note to the classroom teacher in advance.

contacted if the accident is of a serious nature. It is important that the school
maintains your current phone number or that of a neighbour or friend. Any change
must be advised to the school.
After School and Holidays
The school grounds remain open to the community outside of school hours. Please
supervise children and encourage them to care of the school property. The classrooms
are out of bounds after regular school hours and can only be used with the consent
of the Principal.

every day. The Ministry of Education pays an allowance for each child who takes
the bus to school. This money helps towards the cost of the bus service. Parents
are also asked to pay $3 a day for the service to help the school recover costs.
It is preferred if each term's bus fees are paid in full in advance however,
other arrangements can be made if this is not suitable for parents. Children
are expected to be waiting at their pick up points before the bus is scheduled
to arrive.

Charter
The Charter is a document which details the vision and mission of the school
and introduces our goals and objectives. The charter is available from the office
on request.
Children's needs
Being a small school we have the advantage of being able to personalize and
individualize our approach to teaching. If your child has any special needs,
inclinations or aspirations please feel free to discuss those with the staff
at any time.
Conveyance Allowance
For those who travel independently to the school the Ministry of Education pays
parents an allowance. The school office has the forms needed to apply for this
allowance.
Conveyance Allowance Application Form
Computers
Children have access to up-to-date technology, such as the internet for researching
topics, search engines, databases, word processing, publishing and other educational
programmes. We keep a strict control on internet use and regularly inform parents
and children of the dangers and problems associated with free and unrestricted
use of the internet.
Curriculum
We have a comprehensive curriculum delivery plan which includes the full New
Zealand Ministry of Education curriculum as well as scripture studies and Sanskrit
reflecting our special character. The curriculum is reviewed annually to ensure
we are providing appropriate and challenging content which is relevant and stimulating.
Thinking skills and core values underpin the whole curriculum.
Damage to school
Where willful damage is caused by a child the decision may be taken to charge
parent/caregivers to recover part or all of the associated costs.
Dental clinic
Our shared dental therapist is based at Riverhead Primary School. Children are
seen, free of charge usually once a year.
Ekadasi Dates 2005
Twice a month on Ekadasi we fast from grains and beans. Please ensure your child
does not bring any food containing grains or beans to school on these days.

to complete enrolment procedures prior to your child starting school.
Fees
A donation fee of $200 per year is requested from parents and may be paid in
quarterly installments of $50 each or as you prefer. This fee helps offset administrative
costs of stationary, stamps, envelopes etc and property maintanence.
Other fees : Bus, unifroms
Homework
Homework is provided by teachers at all levels of the school. Homework is an
extension of classroom activities and is an opportunity for parents to become
aware of and involved with the child's work. Please discuss the homework programme
with your child's teacher early in the year so that homework is mutually supportive
for the child, teacher and parent.

Immunization
The school is now required by law to view the immunization records for each
child enrolled.
Lost property
All articles of clothing should be named. The school cannot take any responsibility
for items that are lost. There is a lost property bin positioned in the worshop
at the rear of the school building.
Lunch
CChildren are expected to bring prasadam/lunch from home. Children should have
access to their lunch before 1.00pm, all children eat lunch together at that
time. Junk food such as packet chips and fizzy drink is not healthy and therefore
not acceptable food for your child's lunch. Any notes requesting children to
go home for lunch must come to the office.
Medication
If your child needs medication at school, a parent or caregiver must bring it
to the office and leave explicit instructions on administration for the secretary
or teacher in charge.
Newsletters
Newsletters are sent home with the oldest child in the family. Ask your child
regularly for newsletters/principal's reports, as they can easily be left in
the bottom of a bag, and are important to keep you in touch.
There are many ways you can participate in the day to day running of the school.
BOT
Participation in governance of the school.
School trips.
Parents are asked to assist on school trips and the response is always very supportive.
Sports Days and Physical Education.
From time to time parents and community members contribute to the school by organizing fun sports activities and cultural events such as soccer matches, fruit picking competitions and even a haka.
Lunchtime supervision
As we have limited staff it is a great help if parents can supervise morning break and lunchtime. This is an opportunity to spend time with the children in a relaxed and semi-structured environment.
Classroom Parent Help
Parents are always welcome to assist particularly in the Junior class.
Parent Resource Helpers
Parent help is always appreciated in sorting and creating resources.
Consultation
The school welcomes the input of the parents. From time to time the school surveys parents and community members on important issues related to improving learning opportunities.
Regular Spiritual Programme
As part of the all round education of your child at the Hare Krishna School we encourage families to either attend the daily temple program or to hold a spiritual program in their home. Parents are also encouraged to attend temple festivals along with their children.
Pupils leaving the school grounds
Children are not allowed to leave the school grounds at any time during school
hours unless we have your written permission.
Reporting to parents
In accord with BOT policy we report your child's progress and achievement at
the end of the second term and fourth term in writing and at the end of the
first term and third term in parent/teacher interviews. However, you are welcome
to visit your child's classroom at any time and/or arrange an interview to discuss
concerns/progress with the classroom teacher.

Schools Trips
School outings are an important part in the children's education. Parents can
be assured trips will be budgeted carefully with the minimum cost possible being
passed on the parents. We would encourage payment to be made well before the
visit takes place, however the closing date for a trip is prior to departure.
Parents are asked to sign a consent form at the beginning of the year giving
permission for there child to attend any class trips during the year. It is
important that these are signed and returned to schol to enable your child to
attend. You will also be notified of most school trips well in advance.
Parent assistance will be sought for trips as specific adult/pupil ratios must
be adhered to before any child can leave the school.

Sick children
Staff attend First Aid training and are equipped to handle minor injuries or
sickness that occur at school. Our policy is to contact the parents and have
the children collected if they are too sick to return to class. In event of
an accident or serious illness, the Principal can act "in loco parentis"
if the parents cannot be contacted, and arrange for medical treatment, unless
informed to the contrary. If your child is sick, home is always the best place.
We need your accurate contact numbers- if you haven't got a phone, we must have
an emergency contact number.
Stand down , suspension and exclusion
As a last resort, pupils not responding to the schools programmes to eliminate
misbehavior and who are a threat to the welfare of other people may ultimately
be stood down, suspended or excluded.
Values
Values are an integral part of the New Zealand Curriculum. Core shared values
included in the curriculum are honesty, reliability, respect for others, tolerance,
fairness, caring and compassion. Krishna conscious education holds the highest
values. We believe the best way to teach values is to demonstrate them, "to
walk the talk". The partnership between home and school becomes of paramount
importance if the children are to imbibe the values of our special character
in a consistent and supportive environment.
